Site Visit Checklist: What to Prepare Before Your First Interior Design Consultation

Interior design consultation planning checklist Delhi NCR by IndecSpace

Before your first interior design consultation, have a rough budget range, a must-have vs nice-to-have list, and any inspiration references ready — we handle measuring, society coordination, and material specifics ourselves. Your first consultation is free, and it's mostly us understanding you, but a few things ready beforehand make it far more useful for both sides.

What to Have Ready

A rough budget range, even an approximate one, helps us recommend the right scope tier rather than showing you options outside it — this alone saves a round of back-and-forth. A short list of must-haves versus nice-to-haves ("a modular kitchen is a must, a false ceiling is nice-to-have") lets us prioritise clearly if the budget is tight. Any inspiration references — photos, saved posts, or even a finished space whose feel you liked — help us calibrate your taste quickly; we're not copying it, just using it as a starting reference point. An existing floor plan or sale-deed layout helps if you have one, but it's genuinely not required.

What We Handle So You Don't Have To

Don't worry about measuring the space yourself — we laser-measure on-site during the visit, and catalogue-based or self-estimated measurements are exactly what leads to gaps and filler strips at installation, which is why we don't rely on them. Society and RWA approval processes come up naturally at the consultation stage; we guide you on NOC and lift-booking requirements rather than expecting you to already know them. You also don't need to arrive knowing hardware brands or finish names — that's what the design phase and physical material samples are for, not something to research beforehand.

What Actually Happens During the Visit

The visit itself typically runs 45–75 minutes on-site. We walk the space, discuss how you actually use each room day to day — not just how it should look — and take laser measurements throughout. We also note any visible civil issues, like dampness or cracking, that might need a structural assessment before design work starts, since that changes the scope and timeline conversation early rather than surprising you later.

One Thing Worth Deciding Before We Arrive

Decide who's making the final call on design decisions before the visit, especially if it's a joint decision between partners or family members. Having that person present, or at least aligned beforehand, avoids a delay we see often: a design direction agreed on in the first meeting getting revisited weeks later because a key decision-maker wasn't in the room the first time around.
